What you get

What you get on the desktop

The desktop app is built around the DocFila Reader, with the document tools from the web and mobile apps alongside it.

DocFila Reader

View PDFs in a native window and annotate them as you read. The Reader is the heart of the desktop app.

Document tools

The DocFila document tools you use on the web and on mobile, on your desktop as well.

Signing and redaction

Sign documents and redact what should not be shared, directly in the Reader.

Open with, from Finder

Open PDFs and images from Finder: choose Open With, or drag a file onto the DocFila icon.

Offline access

Files that are already on your device open without a connection.

Same account everywhere

Sign in with your DocFila account and work with the same files as the web and mobile apps.

Install on macOS

Three steps on your Mac

DocFila for macOS is a drag-and-drop install from a signed DMG, for macOS 11 Big Sur or later on Apple silicon and Intel.

  1. Open the DMG

Download DocFila-2.3.7.dmg (226 MB) and open it from your Downloads folder.

  2. Drag DocFila to Applications

In the window that opens, drag the DocFila icon onto the Applications folder. Eject the disk image once the copy finishes.

  3. Launch it for the first time

Open DocFila from Applications. macOS may ask you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet; the app is signed with an Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so confirm and continue. Then sign in with your DocFila account.

Install on Windows

Windows: install in three steps

DocFila for Windows is a signed installer (.exe) for Windows 10 version 1809 or later, 64-bit. Download it from this page, open it from your Downloads folder, and it installs for your user account only, so it never asks for administrator rights.

If SmartScreen appears

A new signing certificate has no download history yet, so Windows may show a SmartScreen notice the first time. Choose More info, check that the publisher reads NotaNovice UG, then Run anyway. The warning stops once the certificate builds reputation.

Check the SHA-256

FAQ

Questions about the desktop app

Is DocFila for desktop free?

There is a Free tier. Premium is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year and Pro is $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year. On desktop, plans are billed through Stripe: checkout opens in your browser and a docfila:// link returns you to the app.

Do I need an account?

Yes. The desktop app uses the same DocFila account as the web and mobile apps, so the files and plan you already have are there when you sign in. A Free account is enough to get started.

Does it work offline?

Files that are already on your device open in DocFila without a connection. Anything that goes through your account, such as signing in and syncing with your other devices, needs one.

How do updates work?

For now, updates are delivered as new downloads from this page. When a newer version is listed here, download it and drag it into Applications to replace the copy you have.
