How to Install DocFila on Mac — The Native Desktop App
By DocFila Team · September 4, 2026 · 4 min read
DocFila now ships as a native Mac app. Version 2.3.0 brings the DocFila Reader — view, annotate, redact and sign PDFs — together with the document tools you use on the web and on your phone, all under the same account. It is a 226 MB disk image signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, and installing it takes three steps.
What you'll need
- A Mac running macOS 11 Big Sur or later — Apple silicon and Intel Macs both run the same download.
- Around 750 MB of free disk space while installing: the 226 MB download plus the installed app, which is about 490 MB.
- A free DocFila account to sign in; your documents and folders are the same ones you see on the web and in the mobile apps.
Step 1: Download the DMG
Open the desktop download page and click Download for macOS. The short link docfila.com/download/mac always points at the current release. The page lists the version, the file size and the SHA-256 checksum of the file you are about to download.
Step 2: Drag DocFila to Applications
- Open
DocFila-2.3.0.dmgfrom your Downloads folder. - In the window that opens, drag the DocFila icon onto the Applications folder.
- Once the copy finishes, eject the disk image from the Finder sidebar.
Step 3: Launch it for the first time
Open DocFila from Applications or Launchpad. Because the app was downloaded from the internet, macOS may ask you to confirm that you want to open it — it is signed with an Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so confirm and continue. Then sign in with your DocFila account.
Verify the download (optional)
To check that the file arrived intact, open Terminal and run:
shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/DocFila-2.3.0.dmgThe result must match the SHA-256 shown on the desktop download page. If it does not, delete the file and download it again.
Open PDFs from Finder
DocFila opens PDFs and images from Finder: right-click a file → Open With → DocFila, or drag the file onto the DocFila icon in the Dock. To make DocFila the default for every PDF, select a PDF, press ⌘I (Get Info), choose DocFila under Open with, and click Change All….
Updates and uninstalling
New versions are published on the desktop download page; download the new DMG and drag it over the existing app to update. To uninstall, drag DocFila from Applications to the Trash. Your account and synced documents stay in the cloud — reinstall any time and sign in to pick up where you left off.
Prefer not to install anything? The web app at docfila.com is the same workspace, and Safari 17 or later can add it to the Dock with File → Add to Dock….
